FAQ
For Childcarers
Who is a Nanny?
  • A Nanny is paid to come into your house and help look after the children. They'll only look after your children and won't be responsible for looking after others' children at the same time.
  • Nannies will generally have set hours and will work to a routine that you've agreed together. You will have a contract that outlines what the hours are and you will agree the responsibilities ahead of time. Some nannies will also take on some domestic tasks around the house.
  • You effectively employ a nanny and so they have certain employment rights, including the ability to take paid maternity leave. This is something that many parents don't know about so ensure you read up on your responsibilities as an employer.
Who is a Babysitter?
  • A babysitter is someone who hire for ad hoc childcare though you may discover a favourite babysitter and use them more for regular help i.e. one afternoon a week to look after kids after school.
  • Babysitters usually look after your children in your own setting but you can agree in advance that they take them out if you're working from home for example.
  • Their fees are usually per hour or more day depending on location and other criteria.
Can I meet the child carer beforehand?

We suggest that on your first sitting you arrange for the babysitter to arrive 30 minutes before you leave. You can then introduce her to your family and be in a position to see how well she relates to your children. If the children are ready for bed she could read them a story or if they are older you could start a game together. Our experience is that when you introduce your babysitter in this way children soon feel comfortable.

It is usually not practical to meet a sitter before you need her to babysit, as she may not be available when you do need a babysitter. However, if you are very nervous about leaving your child for the first time, why not make your first evening out very local and arrive home early?

Our sitters have been carefully selected and have experience working in the childcare professions. They have chosen to work with children because they enjoy it - you'll find they are quick to put you and your family at ease.

Are all childcarers security-checked?
We request NIN (National Identification Number) and at least one refree from every prospective carer during registration. These infromation is used to perform a security check on every childcarer signing up on our website.

We implore families to conduct a preliminary interview with carers before letting them into your homes.
